Department of Security >>Odors Toxic fumes can infiltrate into or through a building from various sources. Improperly stored chemicals, faulty refrigeration, equipment malfunctions, and engines operated near outside air intakes, are some of the more common. If the presence of toxic fumes is suspected, the area or areas affected should be evacuated. Use a telephone away from this area and call the security department at (305) 243-6000. Security will notify the appropriate entities (Physical Plant, Environmental Health & Safety, or the Fire Department). Ventilate the contaminated areas: It may be possible to clear an affected area by opening windows and using exhaust fans, provided such action is supervised by Environmental Health and Safety of Emergency personnel. |
